Liam D. Clarke is managing director of APCO Worldwide in Saudi Arabia. He specializes in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, public affairs and strategic consulting. Mr. Clarke helps organizations evaluate and transform their operations, including communications, public relations, external and corporate affairs, to bolster reputation and achieve organizational goals. He also advises multi-national corporations on sustainability, corporate responsibility, strategic philanthropy and employee engagement. He brings 20 years of experience working with corporations, government entities, trade groups, foundations and NGOs in the US and around the world.
From 2008 until 2017, Mr. Clarke served as head of worldwide business management for APCO. He oversaw business operations including client compensation and profitability, budget development, resource planning, and procurement. In addition to his management responsibilities, Mr. Clarke provided client counsel. He served on the firm’s global management committee. Since joining APCO in 2003 and serving as a director in APCO’s sustainability practice, Mr. Clarke has developed a number of highly recognized philanthropic, community affairs employee engagement, sustainability, and diversity and inclusion programs for APCO’s Fortune 500 clients.
Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Clarke worked in the corporate relations and public affairs practices at Weber Shandwick. Before joining Weber Shandwick, Mr. Clarke served as program officer and communication manager for the Blandin Foundation, a US-based private foundation with $400 million in assets. His duties included grants and program management as well as oversight of public policy initiatives on a broad scope of issues. He also led foundation communication activities and served as a spokesman.
Mr. Clarke is the past president of the College Key of Bates College and a former member of the Bates College Alumni Council. He has served on the boards of NGOs and as an adviser to several political campaigns.
Mr. Clarke has received APCO’s annual CEO Award and was shortlisted for “Educator of the Year” in PR News’ PR People Awards.
Mr. Clarke earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
