Corporate Brand Strategist Joins APCO Worldwide

London (August 6, 2015) – Geoff Beattie, corporate brand strategist and former television journalist, joined APCO Worldwide this week as executive director, corporate affairs. This is a global role and Beattie will be based in APCO’s London office.

“We’re delighted to have Geoff join APCO in this important new global role,” said Brad Staples, CEO of APCO Worldwide. “We’ve long been an admirer of his work and were very impressed by his outstanding contribution on joint assignments in the past. We’re much looking forward to working with him as he builds upon our rich corporate affairs heritage and offers our clients the benefit of his expertise, drawing on his more than 17 year career as a corporate strategist for some of the world’s leading brands.”

Beattie joins APCO from Cohn & Wolfe, where he worked for eight and a half years and served as global practice leader for corporate affairs and, most recently, as head of strategic consulting. Prior to that, he was CEO of Pleon UK, a large European agency which subsequently merged with Ketchum. Earlier in his career, Beattie spent 12 years as a newspaper and television journalist, working on UK daily and Sunday print titles before joining GMTV as a senior producer.

“I’m excited to be joining APCO, I have always been impressed by the firm’s reputation for strategic corporate affairs and the excellent results APCO achieves for clients,” said Beattie. “Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to lead a number of fascinating assignments for brands in diverse sectors all over the world, and I look forward to working with APCO’s global team and impressive roster of clients in the corporate affairs sphere.”

“It’s fantastic to have Geoff join APCO,” said James Acheson-Gray, managing director of APCO in the UK. “Geoff’s strong combination of skills and international experience will enable him to contribute enormously to several of APCO’s significant corporate accounts, both here in the UK and around the world. We are particularly looking forward to leveraging his expertise in energy and renewables, telecommunications and technology, media and banking.”

Beattie joins APCO at a time of great momentum for the firm, with significant new account wins and a number of senior leadership appointments this year, which further strengthen its corporate consulting capability. These include the appointment of Nelson Fernandez as chairman of North America; the appointment of Nicolas Bouvier as chairman of Europe; the hiring of John Stauffer as lead digital strategist; the appointment of Isabel Kassabian as deputy managing director for APCO’s Berlin office; the re-joining of government relations expert Benjamin Ou as senior counsellor in APCO’s Beijing office; the addition of Gadi Dechter as head of public affairs; and the hiring of Lisa Osborne Ross as managing director for APCO’s Washington, D.C. office, which also serves as the firm’s global headquarters.

Beattie specialises in corporate brand strategies, issues and crisis management, stakeholder relations and global account management. He is well-known as an industry thought leader on the importance of authenticity in communications. Beattie holds an MA in Politics from the University of Glasgow and is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts.
