APCO Worldwide Names New Managing Director in Brussels

Brussels (April 29, 2013) – Claire Boussagol succeeds Philippe Maze-Sencier as managing director of APCO Worldwide's Brussels office, Edward Walsh, APCO's managing director for Europe, announced today. After three months of sabbatical leave, Maze-Sencier will resume his responsibilities as executive director for APCO across the EMEA region.

"I am delighted that Claire is able to relocate from our Paris office to take over as managing director in Brussels. She brings an exceptional combination of operational management and client service experience to the office and I look forward to working closely with her on ensuring the continued success of our operations in the capital of the European Union," said Walsh. "Philippe has done an excellent job strengthening our Brussels capabilities since taking over as managing director last year and we look forward to welcoming him back after his well-deserved break."

Boussagol has more than 25 years of experience providing strategic counsel and managing complex EU and French communication, stakeholder engagement and public affairs assignments for multinational clients and associations. She joined APCO in 1995 as one of the firm's earliest employees in the Brussels office. In 1998 she set up APCO's Paris operations, which she ran as managing director for the next 10 years. APCO's Paris office today employs 27 consultants and is an example of one of APCO's very successful operations. In the last four years, Boussagol was overseeing APCO's Italian operations and the firm's global affiliate network, while continuing to play a leading role on several key regional client accounts.

"I am very pleased to be returning to APCO in Brussels to take up this new challenge," Boussagol said. "Since opening in 1995 our Brussels office has successfully addressed some of the most complex stakeholder engagement and public affairs challenges in the European Union. Our diverse team in Brussels consists of professionals from most European nationalities and includes former journalists; policy advisors; lawyers; and corporate communication, business and NGO experts. I look forward to working with this talented team to continue delivering outstanding results for our clients."

Prior to joining APCO, Boussagol was deputy manager at Brussels-based consulting firm European Consulting Company (ECCO), specialising in EU institution communication programmes for trade associations. She also previously worked as a director at European Strategy, where she specialised in advertising, consumer and trade policy, as well as financial services. A lawyer by training, Boussagol taught for four years at Sciences Po in Paris. She is fluent in French and English, and proficient in Spanish.

Boussagol's appointment is the latest in a series of moves to further strengthen APCO's senior team in Brussels. Earlier this year, Richard Bullard returned to APCO's Brussels office as executive director, after undertaking in-house EU public affairs roles for Google and Johnson Controls. Bryan Dumont, president of APCO Insight, APCO's global opinion research group, also recently moved to the firm's Brussels office, where he continues to lead APCO's global reputation research offering. In addition, Tresja Bolt, who leads APCO's regional health care practice from the firm's Brussels office, was recently promoted to executive director after 13 years with the company.
