Associate Consultant

Kaj Malden is an associate consultant in APCO Worldwide's Washington-based Public Affairs practice, where he advises clients in navigating government and policy dynamics, corporate issues management and U.S.-China relations.

Prior to this role, Mr. Malden was based in APCO’s Shanghai office, where he specialized in corporate affairs and government relations and advised clients in highly-regulated industries, including financial services, health care, and philanthropy. Mr. Malden continues to collaborate with the APCO China offices in providing risk forecasting and analysis services around U.S.-China relations.

Prior to joining APCO, Mr. Malden was a member of the Young Ambassador Program at the Beijing office of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where he conducted research and analysis into Chinese energy policy and environmental governance. Mr. Malden also taught in the School of Foreign Studies at the University of Science and Technology Beijing.

Mr. Malden holds a Master of Arts in International Relations and Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, where his studies focused on U.S.-China relations and a Bachelor of Arts in East Asian Studies from Lewis & Clark College. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and has studied Japanese.
