Elizabeth Funderburk

Senior Director

Elizabeth Funderburk, senior director in APCO Worldwide’s Washington, D.C., office, provides strategic counsel to health care clients in issues management, stakeholder outreach, alliance development and media relations. She comes to the firm with over 15 years of experience in health care advocacy and crisis communications.

Prior to joining APCO, Ms. Funderburk developed and led comprehensive public affairs campaigns for Consumer Healthcare Products Association, the trade association representing the over-the-counter (OTC) medicine industry. With experience managing key industry campaigns aimed at preserving and expanding OTC access for consumers, Funderburk brings extensive knowledge and experience in cultivating influencer-networks for grassroots education and mobilization. In addition to this work, Ms. Funderburk also served as the industry’s primary media liaison on regulatory and legislative issues, working with media for FDA advisory committee meetings and public hearings such as reforming the OTC Drug Review (the Monograph System); the safety review of NSAIDs and cardiovascular risks; OTC acetaminophen; dextromethorphan abuse; phenylephrine dosage; and pediatric OTC cough and cold medicines. 

Ms. Funderburk also worked on Capitol Hill for 10 years. She worked as legislative director for Rep. Peter Deutsch (D-FL), overseeing his legislative portfolio before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

Ms. Funderburk holds a Bachelor of Arts in French and English from Vanderbilt University.
