Former IBM Director of Corporate Communication Joins APCO

London (September 22, 2006) – Edward Walsh, former director of corporate communication for IBM France and Northwest Africa, joins APCO Worldwide (APCO) as regional director, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Brad Staples, EMEA chief executive officer, announced today.

“Ed is an excellent addition to the APCO team. He brings international experience and a deep understanding of global corporate communication in a complex environment,” said Staples. “Our clients will benefit from his comprehensive understanding of the information technology and telecommunications sectors, as well his experience with enhancing corporate communication and brand identity through financial transactions.”

Walsh’s responsibilities with APCO will span client service with a focus on the information technology and telecommunications sectors, business development and operational management of APCO’s European business. He spent the previous nine years in various senior corporate communication positions at IBM, ranging from managing internal and executive communication in the EMEA, to leading the change and corporate communication work for the integration of Price Waterhouse Coopers Consulting in Europe, following its acquisition by IBM in 2002.

Walsh joins APCO’s expanding corporate communication team, including Jon Chandler, former regional communications and public affairs director for Coca-Cola in Europe who joined the firm in August as regional director corporate communication EMEA, and Kirk Stewart, former vice president for corporate communications for Nike, who joined APCO in April as executive vice president.

“APCO’s client portfolio, comprised of many multinational corporations, is extremely impressive. The company’s track record in strategic communication and public affairs allows for a unique and highly sophisticated offer to companies seeking to operate in today’s changing global environment. I am very excited to be joining this cutting-edge, highly dynamic and talented team of consultants to generate business value for our clients,” said Walsh.

As part of a sabbatical from IBM in 2000-2001, Walsh led marketing and communication for MandrakeSoft (now Mandriva), a Paris-based open-source software and services company. He played a key role in the development of the company’s business plan and led the communication work-stream for the company’s initial public offering on the Paris Euronext stock exchange in July 2001.

In the first five years of his career, Walsh worked as a parliamentary assistant at the House of Commons, and for a leading public affairs consultancy in London and Brussels, focusing on audiovisual, consumer affairs, environmental and market liberalization regulatory issues. He began his career as a marketing and production assistant in the television industry.
