Ambassador Elizabeth Jones Joins APCO

Addition Further Strengthens Firm’s International Business Diplomacy Capabilities

Washington, D.C. (September 12, 2005) – Ambassador Elizabeth Jones, former U.S. Department of State assistant secretary for Europe and Eurasia, today joined APCO Worldwide as executive vice president, Margery Kraus, APCO president and chief executive officer, announced.

“Beth’s extensive international experience throughout Europe, Eurasia, South Asia and the Middle East and her senior role in the issues affecting those regions provides a significant service to our U.S. and international clients,” Kraus said. “With 35 years experience in the U.S. Foreign Service, Beth brings a depth of knowledge and contacts that will help our clients with their business diplomacy needs that require a strong understanding of the interplay among business, government and non-governmental organizations.”

“As Middle East and South Asian countries continue to develop, APCO is increasingly called upon by clients for counsel on complex issues in these regions of the world and others,” said Jones. “It is this dynamic environment that drew me to APCO, as well as the opportunity to work collaboratively with a cadre of other experts in the international business diplomacy field.”

Jones will serve as a leader of APCO’s business diplomacy team providing strategic advice on topics such as economic policy, energy, corporate social responsibility and government relations. She will work with other key international advisors including Don Riegle, chairman of government relations and a former U.S. senator with expertise in banking, trade and international relations; Don Bonker, executive vice president and former U.S. congressman who provides guidance on international trade and foreign policy issues; Stuart Eizenstat, senior counselor and former U.S. ambassador to the European Union and under secretary of state for economic, business and agricultural affairs; Charles Krause, senior vice president and former Washington Post and PBS journalist with expertise in economic and political policy; Marc Ginsberg, senior vice president and former U.S. ambassador to Morocco; and Christine Chauvet, APCO senior counselor and former French minister of trade.

In her previous role at the State Department, Jones designed U.S. policies for all NATO and European Union countries, Russia, Ukraine, the Caucasus and Central Asia. Prior to that, Jones held the position of senior advisor for Caspian energy diplomacy at the State Department, and before that, she served as principal deputy assistant secretary for the Near East and supervised the bureau’s operations in U.S. embassies in 16 countries. Jones has held numerous other high-ranking government positions including U.S. ambassador to Kazakhstan, executive assistant to Secretary of State Warren Christopher, and deputy chief of mission for U.S. embassies in Bonn, Germany and Islamabad, Pakistan.

Jones received Arabic language training in Beirut; Tunis, Tunisia and Cairo; Russian language training in New Delhi; her master of arts in international relations, strategic studies from Boston University’s Berlin campus and a bachelor of arts in history from Swarthmore College.
