Leading Director from Policy Exchange Joins APCO

Conservative Party Expert Strengthens Public Affairs Offer

London (May 27, 2008) – Dr Steven King, external relations director at Policy Exchange, the influential centre-right think tank, joined APCO Worldwide as associate director in the London office, Managing Director Darren Murphy, announced today.

King’s appointment provides APCO’s clients an in-depth understanding of the Conservative Party’s thoughts and policy development process under David Cameron.

“Steven’s political and policy insight will be invaluable in providing the predictive counsel we offer our clients,” said Murphy. “Knowing what makes David Cameron’s Conservatives tick will be vital in light of the increasingly competitive contest for which party will form the next government.”

“As the Conservative Party begins to prepare its manifesto programme, it is a key time for me to join APCO,” said King. “I look forward to bringing my knowledge to APCO’s burgeoning client base.”

King served as political advisor to Nobel Peace Laureate and First Minister of Northern Ireland David Trimble for six years. He was the Ulster Unionist party negotiator on equality, human rights and cultural issues in the multi-party talks leading to the Good Friday Agreement.

At Stormont, he was responsible for political communication strategies, party management issues and drafting position papers. He was also Lord Trimble’s main speechwriter.

Before joining Policy Exchange, King was responsible for managing the reputational issues from the Office of Fair Trading inquiry into alleged fee-fixing for the Independent Schools Council.

King’s perspective will complement the strong public affairs team at APCO, including: Razi Rahman, former political advisor to Tony Blair; and Matt Browne, former head of Policy Network, the progressive think tank founded by Bill Clinton and others.
