Former Leader of Global Progressive Governance Network Joins APCO
London (February 1, 2007) – Matt Browne, former director of the Policy Network, the international progressive governance think-tank founded by Tony Blair, Gerhard Schröeder, Göran Persson and Giuliano Amato, joins APCO Worldwide as a director, according to Simon Miller, managing director of APCO’s London office.
“With his background in international policy-making, Matt brings to APCO a high-level understanding of politics in the global arena,” said Miller. “In light of APCO’s strong international growth, Matt’s expertise will effectively match our clients’ strategic needs.”
“Matt will contribute to projects across our expanding Europe, Middle East and Africa region. His solid credentials will make him instrumental in ensuring APCO provides an informed international perspective in complex multi-country assignments,” added Brad Staples, chief executive officer, Europe Middle East and Africa.
As head of the Policy Network, Browne was responsible for the intellectual and political preparation of intergovernmental summits in the United Kingdom, Hungary and South Africa. He worked on cutting-edge policy issues with European Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, a host of international leaders, and prime ministers’ and presidents’ offices across the globe.
“I am excited to join APCO and contribute my knowledge and skills to solving the intricate policy and communication challenges of our clients. I look forward to working with the vast range of business and government clients which APCO advises,” said Browne. “APCO’s strategic role, at the nexus between business, public policy and public opinion, is what attracted me most to the company.”
Prior to his position at the Policy Network, Browne was a senior adviser to former European Commission President Jacques Delors, during his leadership of the Laeken Council Advisory Group and his campaign for the presidency of the convention on the Future of Europe. Browne is a regular commentator in the international media on European and international affairs. Additionally, he held positions as lecturer, visiting professor and fellow at various academic institutions such as the Sussex European Institute, the European Business School, the University of British Columbia and the University of Cape Town. He is widely published on the future of Europe and progressive politics and edited two collected volumes, “Rethinking Social Democracy” and “Third Time Lucky? Lessons from Labour’s 2005 Election Campaign”.
