Motor Accident Solicitors Society Appoints APCO

London (April 24, 2006) - The Motor Accident Solicitors Society (MASS) selected APCO to provide public affairs support for its campaign to protect the legal rights of individuals who suffer personal injury in motor accidents.

MASS, which selected APCO after a competitive pitch process, is a leading voice in highlighting the need to protect the interests of personal injury victims and to maintain their access to justice through the retention of the £1,000 limit.

"I am delighted that we have APCO on board to help us protect the legal rights of people who have suffered personal injury in motor accidents. The APCO team demonstrated commitment to the messages we are seeking to convey and have the expertise and energy to ensure our communications are as effective as possible," said Jane Loney, executive director of MASS.

Any personal injury case that awards over £1,000 can recover legal costs from a defendant who is found liable. The government is considering a proposal to raise this limit to £5,000. Approximately 400,000 personal injury claims relate to motor accidents (equating to 50 percent of all personal injury claims) and it is estimated by MASS that 80-85 percent of motor accident personal injury claimants could be deprived of legal advice and assistance if this proposal is implemented.

"We look forward to working with MASS to ensure that the legal system delivers fairness and justice to people with legitimate personal injury claims. Many people share MASS’s concern that changing the current arrangements will deprive innocent motor accident victims of the means to seek fair compensation for their injuries. This will let the people who cause motor accidents - and their insurance companies - off the hook and relegate the interests of the innocent," said Simon Miller, managing director, APCO UK.
