David Bushong Joins APCO WorldwideFormer Altria and Boeing executive brings strong global corporate and political expertise to APCOBrussels, (February 20, 2008) – David Bushong, former vice president of international affairs for Altria and head of Boeing’s Brussels office, will join APCO Worldwide as director and senior counselor, Garry Walsh, managing director of APCO ’s Brussels office, announced today. “David has a unique global perspective on the challenges our clients face, built from an extensive international experience combining high-level public and private sector positions,” said Walsh. “This expertise will undeniably benefit APCO’s diverse pool of global clients. I thus firmly believe he is a great addition to our senior team.” A lawyer, Mr. Bushong’s career began in the U.S. Department of Justice where he served as special assistant to the Attorney General. He then moved up to the Minority Counsel for the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee. His Congressional experience includes three years as the chief of staff for Senator Nancy Kassebaum, who, at the time, took a lead role in African policy matters. As a politically appointed diplomat, he later served three years as Secretary of the U.S. Mission to the E.U., gaining invaluable insight on transatlantic government relations. Mr. Bushong’s private sector experience is equally prominent and reflects his experience in dealing with international organizations such as the WTO, the UN and NATO. He headed the Brussels office for Boeing’s defense division, building coalitions of aviation companies throughout Europe. He has also worked as partner in lobbying agency Gold and Liebengood (now part of Burson Marsteller public relations) in Washington and London, and practiced market access strategies in China and Australasia. At Fortune 100 company Altria, Mr. Bushong first served as Vice President for European Affairs, where he dealt with EU institutions as well as national governments, before being promoted to Altria’s international affairs portfolio.
