APCO Worldwide Names Dan Scandling, Former Congressional Chief of Staff and Communications Director, as Senior Director for Public Affairs

Washington (June 15, 2016) — Dan Scandling, a longtime Capitol Hill chief of staff and communications director, and a former senior vice president of public affairs for Ogilvy Public Relations, joins APCO Worldwide as senior director for public affairs, announced Lisa Osborne Ross, Washington managing director.

“Our clients are facing an increasingly complex and ever changing world, and they’re looking for partners to help them navigate it,” said Gadi Dechter head of APCO Worldwide’s Washington public affairs practice. “Dan’s more than 20 years of experience on Capitol Hill, advising two senior members of Congress, and his deep understanding of reputation management and the D.C. media will help APCO provide invaluable counsel to our clients. We are delighted to welcome Dan.”

During his time on Capitol Hill, Scandling served as a chief advisor to Representatives Frank Wolf and the late Herb Bateman, Republican members of Congress from Virginia. Scandling provided advice and counsel on all legislative, communications, media and political strategy matters for the congressmen in his role as chief of staff and head of communications. He also helped lead the annual appropriations legislative process for the departments of Commerce and Justice, as well as the nation’s science agencies.

Scandling was also responsible for managing all facets of 11 multimillion dollar congressional campaigns, leading the reelection efforts of Representatives Wolf and Bateman from 1990-2012.

"What APCO does, and how it does it, sets it apart in the marketplace, and I’m thrilled to join this dynamic team,” said Scandling. “This opportunity allows me to continue to work on global issues with a legislative agenda perfectly suited to my skills and passions. I look forward to adding my experience to APCO’s global expertise, and working with our clients to achieve their goals."

After leaving Capitol Hill, Scandling joined Ogilvy Public Relations in 2015, where he advised clients in government, financial, health care and technology sectors as senior vice president for corporate and public affairs.

Prior to his work on the Hill, the Randolph-Macon College graduate served as a public relations officer at the Virginia House Development Authority. In addition to his government work, Scandling also served as a general manager and editor for The Caroline Progress, and as a copy editor for The Richmond Times-Dispatch.

APCO has been a leader in government relations and public affairs for more than 30 years, helping clients find solutions to complex global problems. APCO’s Washington-based government relations team is led by distinguished experts including:
