APCO’s first employee in Europe and set up APCO’s Brussels office in 1995. He specialises in
media relations and has invented a software system – Digital Vigilance® – to track online and print

Lorenzo Consoli is president of the International Press Association (API). He worked as a
journalist in Brussels covering EU affairs since 1991. Between 2000 and 2003 Lorenzo worked
in the EU Unit of Greenpeace and has been working for the Italian news agency APCOM since 2003.
He was elected president of API in 2006. |

Michael Mann joined the European Commission in 2002, as spokesperson for administrative reform
under Commissioner Neil Kinnock. He has been spokesperson for agriculture and rural development
since 2004. Michael previously worked as a journalist for publications including the Financial Times,
Reuters, Bloomberg, Agra Europe and the European Voice. |

Mike Rumsby joined L’Oréal’s head office corporate communication function in Paris in
September 2002, taking up a new position created to support the corporate communication
functions in all countries worldwide. Today, he is responsible for the group’s external reputation
management worldwide with a large emphasis on media relations. Prior to joining L’Oréal, Mike
spent his previous career at a communication consultancy, working in London, Norway and most
recently in Brussels. |

Caroline Hayat began her professional career in 1997 at the European Consumers’ Organisation
(BEUC), where she worked first as the director's policy assistant, and then as spokesperson for
the organisation. For the last eight years she has headed the communication department, where
she is in charge of the external communication activities, as well as internal communication between
BEUC and its member organisations across Europe. |

covering key EU policy topics. Her specialist subjects included health, consumer affairs, agriculture,

including ENDS Europe Daily and Brussels news site EUPolitix.com. |
