Political OutlookMargery Kraus

Between the unprecedented U.K. election results, another prime minister's resignation in Japan and the uncertain mid-term elections still to come in the United States, the political and economic horizon remains unclear. But while political changes and economic recovery bring challenges, they also offer equally unlimited opportunities.

The dawn of any new government brings with it additional risks and greater uncertainty. However, a new set of faces and the first coalition government in the U.K. for 70 years also bring the potential to offer new possibilities in a country that, like much of the world, is tentatively emerging from a deep recession.

Our colleagues in our London office have fully leveraged their political expertise to keep our clients (and the rest of the world) informed of the twists and turns of U.K. politics with briefings, interviews and minute-by-minute election updates on Twitter.

We'll find out this fall whether the wave of political changes has reached American shores. Gallup polls show an unprecedented low level of satisfaction among U.S. voters in the run-up to the mid-term elections, which historically has triggered a loss of seats by the majority party.

APCO Updates

Regardless of where your business operates, trying to navigate this evolving environment can be a challenge. With these complex international movements in mind, APCO established Global Political Strategies (GPS) earlier this year. GPS brings together an unparalleled group of former heads of government, cabinet ministers, senior diplomats and political advisers to help businesses navigate our increasingly interconnected world. GPS can be considered a "foreign ministry in a box," helping CEOs make informed strategic decisions about different countries, markets, politicians, policies and politics.

We've approached 2010 in our usual manner: full steam ahead, and we're going strong!
