Ludolf von Wartenberg
Dr. Ludolf von Wartenberg was a member of the presidential board of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Germany’s leading federal industry association, and a member of its U.S. board. In addition, he served as BDI’s director general for 17 years until he retired in December 2006. He has an extensive background and experience in German and international business and excellent contacts with politicians around the world.
His political career started in the German regional state, Lower Saxony, where he served as a member of the regional parliament from 1970 until 1976. He was a member of the German Parliament, Bundestag, from 1976 until 1990, where he held several high-ranking positions: member of the committee on financial affairs and deputy chairman of the committee on economic affairs; coordinator of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany/Christian Social Union of Bavaria group in the committee on financial affairs; and general rapporteur for the economic committee in the North Atlantic Assembly. From 1987 until 1989 he served as parliamentarian under the secretary of state in the German government’s Department of Economic Affairs.
He was director of the Hannover Rückversicherung AG, Hannover, from 1985 until 1987; and member of the executive board of the umbrella organization of German house and land owners, Düsseldorf, from 1972 until 1976.
Dr. von Wartenberg studied economics and economic history at the universities of Hanover, Belfast and Göttingen. He has a PhD in economics.
