Rachel Thompson

Rachel Thompson, regional director in APCO Worldwide’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region and practice manager for corporate responsibility and global trade, is based in APCO’s London office. Previously, Ms. Thompson has been an Australian NGO campaigner on forest issues, Australian trade negotiator and a senior policy researcher in an intergovernmental organization.  At APCO, she provides strategic advice on corporate responsibility (CR) and globalization issues to corporate, government and nonprofit clients. Ms. Thompson also serves as vice-chair of APCO Worldwide's Responsible Business Committee.

Ms. Thompson advises clients on alignment of CR strategy with business strategy, on stakeholder and partnership programs, evidence-based reporting and communication, and on next generation CR initiatives. She also has extensive experience in executive speechwriting for Ministers, CEOs and nonprofit leaders.

From 1997-1999, Ms. Thompson was at the OECD Secretariat in Paris, where she led research and analysis on global trade issues including energy and environmental services, and Internet-based trade. Prior to OECD, from 1987, Ms. Thompson served in the Australian Foreign Service, specializing in multilateral trade negotiations. She was a member of Australia's Uruguay Round negotiating team from 1989-1993, serving as first secretary then counsellor in Australia’s Permanent Mission to the GATT/WTO in Geneva from 1992-1995, and as director, Trade Strategy in Canberra in 1995-1996.

Ms. Thompson was educated at the University of Sydney and the Australian National University.
