James Robinson

James Robinson, vice president in APCO Worldwide’s New York office, counsels clients on U.S. and international public affairs, with a particular focus on corporate responsibility and emerging markets.

Prior to joining the New York office, Mr. Robinson worked as an associate director within the investment and government relations practice of APCO’s office in Beijing. In this capacity he advised multinationals looking to enter the China market and helped clients expand their China presence through government and public affairs programs. He also managed marketing and business development functions for APCO’s China presence.

In 2002, he spent a year in APCO’s office in Indonesia, where he focused on servicing clients from the extractive industries. He advised on external affairs for multinational energy companies and conducted a major study into the macroeconomic impact of a major gas reserve in Indonesia’s West Papua province. Additionally, he worked with international clients on investor, media and government relations campaigns.

Mr. Robinson graduated with both a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Oriental (China) Studies from the University of Cambridge and speaks Mandarin proficiently. He served as chairman of the Oxford and Cambridge Alumni Club in Beijing and continues to participate in several New York-based business and Asia-related organizations.
