John Arnold
John Arnold O.B.E., representative of APCO Worldwide’s Jakarta office, has had a distinguished career in financial services in Indonesia. Mr. Arnold was previously a senior partner of Ernst & Young in Indonesia and chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Arnold was a partner for 22 years in Ernst & Young in Indonesia, prior to which he also worked for them in Singapore and London. He led the firm’s business advisory service practice and was responsible for introducing and leading their annual Entrepreneur of the Year program in Indonesia. He also served as director of business development, marketing and communication. Mr. Arnold was one of the founders of Indonesia Business Links, an organization to promote corporate responsibility in Indonesia, and has been an active spokesman on corporate governance and corporate responsibility matters for many years.
In addition to serving as the founding chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia for more 10 years, Mr. Arnold was also a board member of the European Chamber of Commerce for many years and served as the first vice chairman of the International Business Chamber. He is currently a member of the Council of Trustees of the British International School of Jakarta and formerly served as vice-chairman and treasurer of the Schools Board of Governors.
Mr. Arnold was made Officer of the order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 2002 in recognition of his services to British-Indonesian commercial relations. He was elected an honorary lifetime member of the British Chamber of Commerce after stepping down as chairman in 2007.
Mr. Arnold, a British citizen, speaks French, Indonesian and Chinese (Mandarin). His career with Ernst & Young exposed him in particular to the oil & gas, mining, financial services and hospitality sectors. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and in Wales, and a Certified Public Accountant in Singapore. Mr. Arnold holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Geography from the University of Leeds.
