Bob Dole Named APCO Senior Counselor
Washington, D.C. (December 6, 2004) - Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole today was named a senior counselor at APCO Worldwide, Margery Kraus, president and CEO, announced.
"I look forward to working with APCO's dynamic team to help guide clients through the complexities of today's global marketplace - especially the unique political and legislative challenges," said Dole. "APCO stands out among its competitors as a global leader in strategic communication with a broad and deep reach into business, government relations and public affairs."
In his role as senior counselor, former Senator Dole will provide strategic advice to APCO's clients on international and domestic legislative, policy and regulatory affairs as well as on health care policy and related matters. He adds to APCO's impressive line-up of former policymakers, ambassadors, business leaders, journalists, government officials and political advisors. Dole also is special counsel in Alston & Bird's Washington, D.C. office and a member of the Legislative and Public Policy Group, a group dedicated to helping clients navigate the intricacies of the laws and regulations passed by Congress, the White House and the courts.
"APCO has an excellent bipartisan team of senior counselors and staff with extensive and diverse experience in business, politics and international relations. Adding Senator Dole to this team expands and deepens our ability to offer clients expert counsel on the legislative, policy and regulatory challenges that face them each day," said Kraus.
A renowned statesman, Dole was elected to Congress from his home state of Kansas in 1960 and to the U.S. Senate in 1968. He served as chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1971 to 1972. In 1976, President Gerald Ford tapped Dole to be his vice presidential running mate. While serving in the U.S. Senate, Dole was a ranking member of the Finance and Agriculture Committees. Elected senate majority leader in 1984, Dole set a record as the nation's longest serving Republican leader. He resigned from the Senate in 1996 to pursue his campaign for the presidency of the United States, as the Republican Party's nominee.
