APCO Named Public Affairs Agency of the Year
Washington, D.C. (May 3, 2005) - APCO Worldwide, a global public affairs and communication consultancy known for setting industry standards throughout its 20 year history, has been named Public Affairs Agency of the Year by The Holmes Report, a public relations industry publication.
APCO defied industry trends towards consolidation in 2004 when a management buyout made it one of the largest independent firms in the field. APCO began as one of the first public affairs practices established by a law firm in 1984 and now has offices in major cities throughout North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The firm provides high-end strategic counsel and offers an integrated team approach to projects on behalf of its clients.
The Report acknowledged the sweep and scope of the firm’s work saying APCO is “involved in some of the biggest issues in the world today, from rule of law in Russia to the global battle against HIV/AIDS.” The Holmes Report monitors the public relations industry and rates firms in an annual score card.
The Report recognized some of APCO’s significant projects in 2004 including promotion of Pfizer’s Share Card and its U Share Drug Discount card; development of public affairs and communication strategies to the Business Roundtable, an association of CEOs representing the largest companies in America; providing corporate reputation management services to Ahold; and collaboration with the U.S. Department of Agriculture on its food safety program.
“It is an extraordinary honor to be selected as the Public Affairs Agency of the Year,” said Margery Kraus, APCO’s president and CEO. “This award is shared with everyone at APCO — around the globe — who worked tirelessly this past year to make it our most successful ever, while keeping the focus on providing exceptional client service.” APCO experienced a growth rate of 24 percent in 2004.
The Holmes Report also noted APCO added two senior statesmen to its roster in 2004. Former Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole joined APCO as a senior counselor and former U.S. Secretary of State Dr. Henry Kissinger, through a strategic alliance with his firm Kissinger Associates, joined an APCO team that already includes former U.S. Senator Don Riegle and former Federal Aviation Administrator Jane Garvey.
