APCO Experts Prepare Clients for Government Oversight

Washington, D.C. (February 1, 2007) – APCO Worldwide (APCO), a global communication consultancy, is launching a service focused on preparing clients for the communication challenges surrounding government oversight, regulation and compliance, Robert Schooling, Washington, D.C., managing director, announced today.

“With more oversight investigations and hearings under consideration in Congress, our knowledgeable and talented team offers a focused service not widely available,” said former U.S. Sen. Don Riegle (D-MI), who is co-chairing the practice with former national TV correspondent with 16 years of covering Capitol Hill, Kent Jarrell. “Congressional hearings and investigations come with significant risk to those in the spotlight, but those risks can be managed with the right counsel.”

“The new Congress and leadership bring a renewed focus on congressional oversight,” said Schooling. “Our highly-specialized team has experience in helping businesses and organizations successfully navigate these challenging circumstances.”

“The challenges are not only what happens when you’re sitting in the witness chair, but also how your messages are coming across in all forms of the media – from TV, to print, to online,” said Jarrell.

APCO’s oversight team will help clients anticipate, plan and prepare for congressional hearings and investigations that affect their organizations and industries, as well as navigate closely through the political and legal and legislative process on Capitol Hill.

APCO’s strategic approach is driven by those with hands-on experience with high-profile hearings and investigations.

Other members of APCO’s oversight team include former U.S. Rep. Don Bonker (D-WA); former U.S. Rep. Richard N. Swett (D-NH); former Ambassador Marc Ginsberg; Jane Garvey, former administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration; B. Jay Cooper, former deputy White House press secretary and deputy assistant to the president under Presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush; Myron Marlin, former director of public affairs at the United States Department of Justice; Jennifer Millerwise Dyck, former Central Intelligence Agency director of public affairs and former deputy communications director for Bush-Cheney ’04; William Pierce, former deputy assistant secretary at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services; Alisa Harrison, former director of communications and press secretary at the U.S. Department of Agriculture; Scott Milburn, former White House Office of Management and Budget press secretary; Barry Schumacher, two decades of experience in the legislative process; and Bob Bissen, former intergovernmental affairs specialist with the U.S. Department of Energy.
