Financial Communication, Public Affairs Expert Strengthens APCO's Greater China Team
Hong Kong (July 15, 2010) – Sukyi Yau, former co-managing director for Citigate Dewe Rogerson in Greater China, joins APCO Worldwide as a senior vice president based in Hong Kong, Larry Snoddon, global vice chairman and CEO of APCO's Asia region, announced today. Yau will lead APCO's financial communication practice in Greater China.
"Sukyi Yau is one of the best known, most respected and most trusted practitioners in financial communication in Hong Kong and Mainland China," said Snoddon. "She also has extensive experience in public affairs, policy and media relations. These capabilities in Asia will significantly strengthen our ability to help clients at the intersection of finance, public opinion and public policy, which is so important today – for countries and for corporations. Sukyi and her team will partner with our global financial communication practice in New York, London and other key markets."
During her 7-year tenure with Citigate, Yau led a number of financial transactions, initial public offerings and public affairs projects. Among her many client achievements, she worked with a group of 19 banks to set up a task force to rebuild the industry's reputation and regain government and public support following the financial crisis in 2008, and she advised the first U.S. company listing in Hong Kong. Other former clients include China Life Insurance Company, Wynn Macau, Sands China, New World Group, Airport Authority Hong Kong, Hong Kong Housing Authority and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
"I am impressed by APCO's ability to help their clients' businesses in Greater China prosper by offering astute strategic communication, government relations and corporate advisory counsel," said Yau. "This will be particularly exciting as Chinese companies expand abroad with similar needs. I look forward to bringing my expertise in both the financial communication and public affairs sectors to APCO's Greater China team and around the globe."
A former journalist, Yau has more than 10 years of journalism experience with Ming Pao, the respected mass-circulation Hong Kong daily newspaper, where she reported on banking, regulatory and government news. She was regarded as one of Hong Kong's most influential and well-connected reporters before joining the public relations industry in 2003 and received numerous journalism awards.
Yau joins a dynamic team of APCO experts in Greater China, including Murray King, former trade commissioner for the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; Kenneth Jarrett, former U.S. consul general in Shanghai; James McGregor, author of the bestselling book One Billion Customers: Lessons from the Front Lines of Doing Business in China; J. Norwell Coquillard, former chairman and president of Cargill Investment (China) Limited; and Gregory Gilligan, former general manager of corporate affairs for McDonald’s (China) Co., Ltd.
