APCO CEO Margery Kraus Enters Washington Business Hall of Fame
Washington, D.C. (December 1, 2009) – Margery Kraus, president and chief executive officer of APCO Worldwide, is one of five laureates to be inducted this year into the Washington Business Hall of Fame. She will be recognized at a black-tie banquet and induction ceremony on December 1.
Founded in 1988 by Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area, the Greater Washington Board of Trade and Washingtonian magazine, the Washington Business Hall of Fame honors outstanding business leaders and entrepreneurs who, through their work, have made significant contributions to the Washington, D.C., area.
“I am proud to receive this tremendous honor from colleagues and friends in this community,” said Kraus. “APCO is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, and while we’ve grown to be a global firm, our presence in Washington has been integral to our success. In fact, we are the only global communications firm headquartered here. I continue to be inspired by our talented and passionate team and our hard-earned reputation for providing forward-looking counsel to our clients.”
APCO offers high-end strategic counsel in corporate communication and public affairs and offers an integrated approach to addressing clients’ challenges and opportunities both in the United States and in markets around the world. Kraus founded the firm in 1984, and the company has since grown from one Washington office to an independent, majority women-owned consulting firm with 550 practitioners in 29 offices throughout the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
“We are honored to recognize the significant contributions Margery – along with all of her fellow laureates – has given on behalf of business and community,” said Ed Grenier, president and chief executive officer of Junior Achievement of the National Capital Area. “Her accomplishments reflect perfectly the entrepreneurial drive inherent in JA programs throughout Greater Washington and are a great example of her creativity, determination and leadership.”
The other 2009 laureates are David G. Bradley, chairman, Atlantic Media Company; Barbara J. Krumsiek, president and chief executive officer, Calvert; Dr. Ralph W. Shrader, chairman and chief executive officer, Booz Allen Hamilton; and J. Knox Singleton, president and chief executive officer, Inova Health System. Washingtonian featured profiles of each laureate in their November 2009 issue.
