Coalition Building
APCO helped develop a coalition with U.S. domestic interest groups to oppose the imposition of trade sanctions against Venezuelan imports. APCO generated letters and statements of opposition to the sanctions from U.S. companies that helped to delay the legislation by one year. This allowed Venezuelan producers to restructure their exports and, when the sanctions were finally imposed, they suffered significantly less damage.
Corporate Responsibility and Strategic Philanthropy
APCO works with several Fortune 500 companies to develop and implement corporate responsibility strategies throughout Latin America. APCO has considerable experience in labor and supply chain issues and has helped major U.S. brands with sourcing challenges in Central America and Mexico. For a major shipping and delivery company, APCO helped expand the company’s global giving into the region through programs in Brazil and Mexico.
Crisis Communication
APCO has extensive experience in crisis and litigation communication throughout Latin America. APCO devised a communication campaign for a major food and beverage company around food safety issues in the Dominican Republic.
Government Relations
APCO has worked extensively with the governments of several Latin American countries on a wide range of domestic and international issues. APCO also provided strategic counsel and media advice to the government and finance ministry of another Latin American country on its debt relief negotiations with the U.S. and international bodies.
Investment Promotion
APCO developed a business generation and promotion plan for the investment promotion agency of a major Latin American country and its free zones based on its comparative advantages and U.S. industry trends. After conducting a strategic assessment of the comparative advantages of that country and its free zones in relation to the other Latin American countries, APCO evaluated the potential interest of some 300 U.S. industries in locating facilities offshore. APCO then developed an investment promotion plan targeted at the U.S. industries with the greatest potential.
Media Relations
APCO developed a multi-country media relations strategy to defeat efforts to impose governmental preference standards harmful to the research and development of technology in Latin America. APCO hosted media roundtables, arranged media interviews with key press, helped draft and place opinion editorials and utilized new technologies to communicate key messages.
Polling and Quantitative Research
APCO Insight®, the opinion research and message development division of APCO Worldwide, conducts focus groups, executive interviews and surveys throughout the world for a variety of corporations, NGOs and governments. In Brazil, APCO Insight was retained by a multi-lateral organization to understand the public opinion environment in surrounding important public policy proposals related to international trade. APCO Insight also directed a three-year regional research program for a Fortune 20 consumer goods company across 12 Latin American nations (Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, Argentina). The research sought to understand society’s expectations for responsible corporate behavior and measure the company’s reputation in the region.
