Etienne Reuter

Former European Commission official and founding director of Elliott Consultants Ltd.

Etienne Reuter is a former European Commission official. He is a specialist in EU and Asian affairs with 13 years of experience living and working in Asia. He is a founding director of Elliott Consultants Ltd., where he currently serves as an advisor to international banks on EU financial regulations and strategy.

Mr. Reuter’s experience at the European Commission includes serving as senior advisor on the China desk of the Directorate General for External Relations, the first Head of Delegation of the EU to Hong Kong and Macao, and Minister Counsellor at the EU embassy in Japan. At the Commission, he also held roles in the competition department and was the spokesman for competition, internal market and taxation policies.

In 2014, Mr. Reuter published China-EU: Green Cooperation, a compilation of contributions from Chinese and European experts discussing climate change, urbanization and advocating stronger cooperation between China and the EU. He also served as a visiting professor at the Lee Kuan Yew School for public policy in Singapore and Tongji University in Shanghai.

Mr. Reuter currently serves on the advisory board of the China Policy Institute of the University of Nottingham. He holds a master’s degree with honors in law from the University of Strasbourg in France.
