APCO Adds to Transportation Practice
Former Federal Transit Administration Official Joins Firm
Washington, D.C. (January 6, 2009) – Wes Irvin, former associate administrator for congressional affairs and communications at the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Transit Administration (FTA), joins APCO Worldwide as a vice president, Robert Schooling, managing director of APCO’s D.C. office, announced today.
“Today, our nation is facing significant transportation and infrastructure challenges,” said Schooling. “Meeting these challenges requires Congress, as well as state and local governments, to work together with the private sector to fund and build the requisite transportation networks to carry people and products quickly and efficiently. Wes brings to APCO significant sectoral expertise. We know he will be a strong asset to our team of transportation experts and to our clients around the world.”
At the FTA, Irvin oversaw all communication and congressional relations for the 500-employee federal agency. He advised the DOT’s Office of the Secretary on issues involving public transportation and related policy matters across the United States and served as a senior advisor to the FTA administrator.
“Improving and sustaining our transportation infrastructure will be a key priority for the incoming administration, the private sector and municipalities everywhere,” said Irvin. “I look forward to working with APCO’s knowledgeable team and diverse roster of clients as these issues grow in importance.”
Irvin previously served as director of congressional and public affairs for the DOT’s Maritime Administration.
Prior to his service at DOT, Irvin worked for former Kentucky Gov. Ernie Fletcher as a communications director and senior campaign advisor. He also served as press secretary to U.S. Sen. Mike DeWine of Ohio and Rep. Dave Camp of Michigan, and press and legislative aide to Rep. Frank R. Wolf of Virginia.
