APCO’s Edward Walsh & Darren Murphy Assume New Roles

Walsh to serve as managing director of London office; Murphy named global lead of services to governments

London (August 24, 2009) – APCO Worldwide’s Edward Walsh today was named managing director of the firm’s London office, Brad Staples, chief executive officer of APCO Worldwide’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region, announced. Walsh will maintain his position as executive director, EMEA, in addition to his lead role within the United Kingdom. Managing Director Darren Murphy was named global head of APCO’s services to governments practice.

“I am excited about the new opportunities that await Edward and Darren,” said Staples. “Both have the experience and skills needed to drive our business forward in new and important directions.”

Walsh brings extensive corporate communication expertise to his new position. He will direct APCO’s UK office into its next phase of growth, building deeper corporate communication services for clients in the market and further developing the London office into an international business hub for the company. Leveraging his experience in public affairs, Walsh will also build on APCO’s market leadership position in this area. Prior to his work at APCO, he spent nine years in senior corporate communication positions at IBM, where he managed internal and executive communication in EMEA, led the change and corporate communication work for the integration of Price Waterhouse Coopers Consulting (PwCC) in Europe following its 2002 acquisition by IBM, and served as director of corporate communications for IBM France Northwest Africa.

“We have a fantastic team of very experienced and talented practitioners, and I am looking forward to focusing on building additional business, driving new growth for APCO within the UK and ensuring our clients receive best-of-class service,” said Walsh.

Murphy will assume a new global position, with overall responsibility for APCO’s services to governments work, overseeing business development and ensuring clients receive high-level counsel on campaign, communication and crisis management strategies.

Prior to joining APCO, Murphy served as special adviser for political communications to former Prime Minister Tony Blair, providing strategic counsel on media issues and message development. More recently, he was head of government relations and external affairs for AstraZeneca UK.

“APCO is an industry leader in assisting governments around the world with communication campaigns in multiple markets,” said Murphy. “My new role will allow for greater focus on developing services that are critical to meeting the increasingly important strategic communication challenges facing all governments.”
