APCO Vice Chairman Larry Snoddon to Head Firm’s Asia Region
Chris Murck named to senior role; Nelson Fernandez named managing director of New York office
Washington, D.C. (January 21, 2009) – APCO Worldwide vice chairman Larry Snoddon is named chief executive officer of the firm’s Asia region, and Nelson Fernandez is named managing director of the New York office, President and CEO Margery Kraus announced today. Snoddon replaces Chris Murck, who served as CEO of the Asia region since 2005, and Fernandez replaces Snoddon as managing director of the firm’s New York office. In a new role as a senior counselor, Murck will continue to serve as a vice chairman in Asia and member of APCO’s International Advisory Council.
“It is a tribute to APCO’s deep pool of talent that we can make these changes from within,” said Kraus. “I am excited about the new challenges and opportunities that await Larry, Nelson and Chris in their new roles. With their leadership, I know that APCO will continue to deliver top strategic counsel to our clients around the world.”
Prior to joining APCO in 2002, Snoddon was vice chairman and a member of the executive committee and board of directors of Young & Rubicam, Inc., as well as a member of the board of its Burson-Marsteller division. Immediately prior, he served as the worldwide president and chief executive officer of Burson-Marsteller.
“I am looking forward to taking on this new assignment in Asia,” said Snoddon. “In a period of economic crisis, Asia remains a strategically important market where we and many of our clients continue to invest.”
Murck joined APCO in 2001 and during his tenure was elected as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in China in 2002 and 2003. He subsequently served two years as a director of the Bank of Shanghai. He is currently an independent director of J.P. Morgan Chase (China) Company Limited and a trustee of the Yale-China Association.
“Larry brings the right skills, experience and stature in the industry to drive the growth of our Asia platform and its integration with our global offerings,” said Murck. “I’m delighted to welcome him to the region and look forward to continuing to deliver tangible results to clients in Asia.”
Prior to his arrival at APCO in 2005 as senior vice president, Fernandez worked at Burson-Marsteller for 12 years, where he worked for both the North America and Latin America regions in the health care, public affairs and corporate practices. At APCO, Fernandez developed new opportunities with some of the firm’s largest clients.
“I look forward to leveraging APCO’s strength in public affairs and public opinion to support both product and corporate brands in New York and around the world,” said Fernandez.
